San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901PHONE: (831) 422-9171 - FAX: (844) 380-3244REQUIREMENT: See attached job descriptionBASE PAY: Class 83 ($12.98 - $17.79/hour)STATUS: Non-ExemptACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: Until FilledAVAILABLE: ImmediatelyJOB SUMMARYThe Cook reports to the Residential Supervising Cook and is responsible for cooking quality food in sufficient quantity, in compliance with contract requirements for the facility.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES1. Assist the Supervising Cook with the general operation and duties of the kitchen.2. Prepare and serve food for the offender population.3. Serve meals on time and ensure the service window remains open per facility schedule.4. Conduct a taste test of all food prior to serving for quality control.5. Reserve a sampling of each meal for food contamination determination.6. Ensure proper storage and dating of all food - refrigerated, frozen, dry, leftovers, late plates, etc. Document leftovers by name, date, time and initials. Reheat properly (165 degrees internal temperature).7. Make certain that each meal is cooked and served as described per the approved menu.8. Follow menu change procedures.9. Responsible for kitchen sanitation in accordance with State and local health department requirements.10. Provide alert supervision of residents working in the kitchen.11. Dress appropriately in clean clothes. Wear a hairnet and disposable gloves while in the food preparation and serving area. Exercise good personal hygiene.12. Work in partnership with Monitor staff for meal counts, kitchen clean-up, safety and security.13. Ensure all residents sign for their meals.14. Conduct meal close-out procedures ensuring all residents had their meal or have a late plate.15. Make sure all special diets meals are prepared per approved directive16. Ensure cooking temperatures and maintenance of equipment are up to standards. Keep refrigerators, freezers and food storage shelves clean and orderly.17. Follow key and knife control procedures at all times.18. Complete all kitchen safety, hygiene, and supply logs.19. Attend meetings and trainings as deemed necessary by the Supervising Cook.20. Will drive on Agency business.21. Thinks and acts quickly and efficiently in emergencies.22. Comply with all Turning Point Safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to: workplace safety, reporting work related injuries, Infection Control and preventing potential safety risks for staff, clients and others.23. Other duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS1. Possess a high school diploma or GED.2. Ability to follow the menu in preparing the daily food listed.3. Ability to plan and prepare well-balanced meals.4. Food Handlers certification.5. Six (6) months experience in preparing quality and quantity food and/or culinary education.6. Ability to read and understand recipes, labels, and instructions for food preparation.7. Ability to work in a residential kitchen environment with elevated temperatures.8. Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word.9. Possess a valid driverand#39;s license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws.
